- W2046178512 abstract "Auditory thresholds and reaction times were measured in three cats with a two response pedal positive reinforcement behavioral procedure. A cat initiated a trial cycle by depressing a response pedal with each front paw. Depressing both response pedals for 4–6 sec turned on a light to mark the 1.6-sec trial. During a trial, release of one of the pedals was defined as a “Yes” report and release of the other pedal was defined as a “No.” Both correct “Yes” and “No” reports were reinforced with liquid meat food. Thresholds and reaction times were obtained with both discrete trial threshold “tracking” and the method of constant stimuli. With both methods, hald of the trials were blanks in which the tone was not presented. Thresholds obtained with the two methods were in good agreement. The shape of the audiograms was similar to that previously reported [J. D. Miller, C. S. Watson, and W. P. Covell “Deafening Effects of Noise on the Cat,” Acta Oto-Laryngol. Suppl. 176, 1–91 (1963)] and the absolute level was higher. [Work supported by NINCDS.]" @default.
