- W2046399098 abstract "SUMMARYMeiotic chromosome behaviour and fertility of three autotriploid Hyoscyamus muticus plants (3n = 3x = 42) originated from a 4n X 2n cross involving induced autotetraploid and its diploid parent (inbred CIMAP/NP-41) were studied. In autotriploids cells showing 14 III at metaphase I were most frequent. Mean number of trivalente, bivalents and univalents per cell were 12.73%, 1.24% and 1.34%, respectively. On an average about 90% of the chromosomes per cell were involved in trivalent formation. Trivalent association which formed only tandem chain (37.7%), tandem-V (31.0%), frying pan (20.0%) and Y-shaped (11.3%) metaphase I configurations occurred. Lagging chromosomes that mostly divided precociously into their chromatids occurred in 30.1% of the cells at anaphase I. Lagging chromosomes in 34.8% of the cells were also observed at anaphase II. Chromosomal distributions at anaphase II showed that autotriploids produced the complete array of meiotic products from n + 1 through all possible unbalanced types to 2n—1. The low pollen and seed fertility in autotriploids suggested that addition of more than a few chromosomes to the balanced genome might have increased the probability of abortion of gametes." @default.
