- W2047560368 abstract "Abstract This paper describes the implementation of the expansion phase of the Wm. Berryhill Micellar-polyner flood. Stages in the injection processes and related problems are presented in processes and related problems are presented in chronological order. When developments in the pilot project dictated changes in the expansion, the pilot project dictated changes in the expansion, the pilot experience is discussed in detail. In 1979, a pilot micellar polymer project initiated in the Glennpool Field southwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma, on the Wm. Berryhill lease. The 18 acre pilot project was maintained until September, 1983, pilot project was maintained until September, 1983, injecting into the upper member of the Bartlesville (Glenn) sand. Field tests from observation wells prompted expansion of the flood in 1982 to the prompted expansion of the flood in 1982 to the adjacent 92 acres of the lease and to include the Middle Glenn sand. Since lithology plays an important role in the flood behavior, the case history is prefaced by a geological review and reservoir characterization. While the pilot production response indicates the flood to be a viable process, the expansion is an on-going project with final results yet to be determined. The flood is currently in the polymer phase, which will continue through May, 1987. phase, which will continue through May, 1987 Introduction The Berryhill Micellar Polymer Project is located in the south central portion of the Glennpool Field, NE/4 Section 17, Township 17N, Range 12E, Creek County, Oklahoma, approximately 12 miles southwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Glennpool Field was discovered in 1905 with the drilling of the Ida Glenn No. k By 1907, the productive limits of the field had been fairly well productive limits of the field had been fairly well established, encompassing approximately 17,000 acres in Creek and Tulsa Counties. Peak production of 117,000 BOPD was recorded in 1907. By 1915 production had dropped to the point where vacuum was applied to assist drainage. Gas repressuring was initiated in 1941, and a pilot waterflood on the Wm. Berryhill lease was started in 1955. The pilot flood was expanded in 1959, and by 1966, the entire Glennpool was under waterflood. A steamflood pilot project, located in the southwest quadrant of the Berryhill lease, was activated in 1976 and shut down in 1978 due to economics, before the viability of the project was established. In 1978, polymer and sulfonate injectivity tests were conducted in the northwest quadrant of the lease. As -a result of these tests an 18 acre micellar polymer pilot was initiated in the same area. The pilot, started in 197 consisted of nine producers and four injectors open in the Upper Glenn producers and four injectors open in the Upper Glenn sand. In 1981, two pilot observation wells showed excellent response to the process. The two wells, 130 and 220 feet away from an injection well, showed reduction in water/oil ratios from over 100 to less than two. This reduction confirmed that waterflood residual oil was being displaced and that a large oil bank had been formed. Based on 1981 crude-price escalations, and the DOE's Tertiary Incentives Program, capitol investment and the commitment of Program, capitol investment and the commitment of funds for project expenses were approved. That same year, sulfonate was ordered and additional wells were drilled. In the interim between pilot response and expansion start-up, several problems developed on the pilot. These included sulfonate plugging, bacteria contamination, and deterioration of the flood front. A pulse test conducted in 1982 indicated that fluid leakage into the Middle Glenn had occurred." @default.
