- W2047768847 abstract "We observed that the Raman frequency of the stretching mode of chemisorbed CO on a silver film changes with the coadsorption of different materials with CO. The coadsorption of xenon and krypton with CO induced a downward frequency shift by −29 and −23 cm−1, respectively, with respect to 2142 cm−1 at an exposure of 0.1 L CO which is very close to the gas phase frequency of CO (2143 cm−1). In contrast, the coadsorption of oxygen and chlorine induced an upward shift by +22 and +13 cm−1, respectively. Such changes in the C-O stretching frequency with coadsorption are interpreted by a scheme that relates the change in the CO-O stretching frequency to changes in the degree of donation and back-donation of electrons between CO and the substrate. The reported results of infrared spectroscopy on the change in stretching frequency of CO adsorbed on other substrates with coverage are also well understood by the present scheme." @default.
