- W2048105890 abstract "To evaluate the vascular effect of acetate of medroxyprogesterone in the ophthalmic artery and central retinal artery. prospective, longitudinal, randomized, triple blind placebo controlled study. We performed a controlled clinical trail with 216 women at the menopause. A total of 108 had been placed to use medroxiprogesterone acetate (group A) and 108 had been placed to use placebo (group B). In group A 92 subjects complete the study and in group B 93 women. Orbital Doppferfluxometric analysis was performed to study the resistence of the ophthalmic and central retinian arteries, determining the pulsatility index (PI), in both groups. The exam was performed before the use of medication and 30 days later (last day). Data was analysed with student t test for independent samples in the comparison of the averages between the groups and for dependent samples in the comparison inside the same group to evaluate the averages. The comparison of the characteristics of the women in the two groups showed that they had been similar in relation to age, time of menopause, body mass index, blood pressure, parity and cardiac frequency. The group that used medroxyprogesterone acetate presented a significant increase of vascular resistence, in the ophthalmic and central retinal arteries, after 30 days using the hormone. In the placebo group no increase was observed. Medroxyprogesterone acetate induces a vasoconstrictor effect on ophthalmic and central retinal arteries." @default.
