Los programas de intervención en obesidad deben incluir un cambio conductual hacia un estilo de vida más saludable utilizando estrategias capaces de concienciar al paciente de la necesidad de un tratamiento crónico para el control de su enfermedad, apoyadas por un equipo interdisciplinario que actúe de forma integrada y maneje todos los instrumentos disponibles según el conocimiento actual de esta enfermedad. Para ello, y de acuerdo con las recomendaciones internacionales para el control de esta epidemia, la Unidad de Obesidad del Hospital Universitario La Paz diseña y propone una estrategia interdisciplinaria y de carácter grupal para el tratamiento integral de la obesidad (Programa EGO) que, mediante el desarrollo de sucesivos talleres de carácter conductual y educacional, pretende ofrecer al paciente herramientas de calidad para el control de su enfermedad. Este programa puede ser de gran interés clínico al apoyar la creación de una estructura terapéutica eficaz y aplicable a otros campos del área de salud para el abordaje integral de la obesidad. Inactivity and unhealthy eating patterns frecuently define obese patients. No motivation and lack of skills to beging a lifestyle modification brings the patient to face multiple and unsafe treatment options which have not been scientific validated. Intervention programs for obesity treatment must promote behavioural modification in order to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Obesity is considered a chronic disease. It is needed to contemplate for its management an interdisciplinary team which should work with an integrated approach. Every therapeutic tool which has been tested and validated should to be applied. According to international recommendations for obesity control, the Obesity Unit from Universitary Hospital La Paz has designed an “Interdisciplinary and group strategy for integral treatment of obesity” (EGO Program). Through six different workshops, with an interactive methodology, the patient is trained in order to manage his pathology with autonomy. This program could represent an interesting and effective intervention model which could be applied in different health areas in order to promote the global approach for obesity." @default.
