- W2048720937 abstract "First, we try to define the sciences relevant to, or mentioned in, the title of this article. Then we define the age of students concerned. For later reference, we give a very short precis of the existing trends in mathematics, and of those trends in psychology which are necessary for the understanding of the main discussion. We deal with the structure of human memory, as accepted by most present‐day psychologists, and its application to the learning of mathematics; then we deal with the knowledge of the interrelation of thinking and brain functioning, again as accepted by the majority of present‐day scientists, and its application to the study of mathematics. The method resulting from such consideration is the psycho‐mathematically based teaching method. The rest of the paper discusses that method, namely the algorithmic rule (two examples and general discussion); teaching by algorithmic rules; algorithmics rules versus mechanization; the mutual interconnection of algorithmic rules, i.e., the preservation principles of psychomathematics; and the experimental results of this teaching method. Then we discuss the explanatory rule (two examples and general discussion); and the denial of the possibility of the existence of a third kind of rule. Last, but not least, there is a general examination of the cognitive method of transforming ‘story’ problems into equations, inequalities and/or functions or their systems." @default.
