- W2049227935 abstract "A systematic study has been made of the fate of pyrimethamine following oral, intramuscular, and intravenous administration to a group of rhesus monkeys. Pyrimethamine labelled with C14 has been used in this investigation which has involved analysis of urine and feces for both parent drug and metabolites over a 5-day post-treatment period. Recoveries of C14-containing materials (original drug and metabolites) were essentially the same after each of the three routes of administration; an average of 82.2 to 84.5% of a single dose was found in the urine, 3.5 to 5.2% in the feces. The urinary elimination of parent drug was also uninfluenced by the mode of treatment, average recoveries varying from 36.0 to 40.1%. These observations provide direct support for the earlier conclusion, based on indirect evidence, that pyrimethamine is absorbed regularly and completely from the gastrointestinal tract. An attempt has been made to reconcile this conclusion with the divergent observations of other investigators." @default.
