- W2049744743 abstract "MANy READERS WILL be aware that something is happening in district nursing; they will have heard that there is be a new course, a longer course, district nursing is become more acad emic, courses are moving into colleges, and the course is be mandatory practise as a district nurse. All of these things are happening, but after briefly explaining the reasons for these changes, it is my intention consider the process of innovating a new curriculum. This will apply specifically the curriculum in district nursing, but the process and some of the lessons learned could be related the development of any .curriculum. In recent years there have been many changes in the practice of district nursing, as described by Robottom (1980); these can be briefly summarised as changes in the type of patients requiring care, and changes in the organisation of the work of the district nurse. And, of course, the majority of patients are of an increasingly older age-group, with fewer people at home able provide care. The organisation of district nursing has also been changed, with the introduction of group attachment rather than geographical working, as a result of the Mayston management structure and the reorganisation of the Health Service. Added these changes in the organisation of the district nurse's work is the expansion of her teaching role, particularly now that all learners are gaining some experience in the community. In recognition of the changing role of the district nurse the Panel of Assessors for District Nurse Training set up a working party in 1974 to devise an improved syllabus based on the existing district nursing syllabus without prejudice the implementation of the Briggs recommendations . The members of the working party felt restricted by" @default.
