- W2050328105 abstract "Abstract In this paper, the approach to discuss high energy physics is taken of first deriving a phenomenological formula fitting p-p elastic data at high energy over the whole angular interval and then discussing its mathematical properties and its physical implications in connection with some of the usual models used to describe high energy phenomena. Although several ambiguities are inherently present in this approach, arguments are given to suggest that the underlaying physical mechanism may be attributed to a multiple scattering process of increasingly large order with incresing energy or, equivalently, to the effect of infinitely many diffractivelike potentials corresponding to inner and inner regions of interaction. The resulting picture visualizes the proton as a composite object whose number of constituents increases with energy or, equivalently, as an onion-like structure with an increasingly large number of layers. The connection of the approach with a statistical model interpretation are also briefly discussed since it appears that a statistical-like and a diffractive-like formulation of the problem can be made compatible one with the other in the sense that they reduce one to the other under a well defined mathematical process." @default.
