- W205052090 abstract "This chapter discusses the space spectrometer sensor systems. The spectrometer can be considered in terms of physical refraction, diffraction, and interference. The separation of earth radiation into its spectral bands can be accomplished by prism dispersion, grating diffraction, and radiation interference. The type of spectrometer that is chosen for space applications depends on several factors: the width of the earth's emission spectral lines, radiance of the emission lines, and interference from other atmospheric components. Nothing is simpler than a prism spectrometer. Grating spectrometer provides better spectral resolution, and the interferometer spectrometer is used for the high-spectral-resolution atmospheric measurements. The atmospheric emission linewidth is a function of the temperature, pressure, and the density of the molecules. Radiance measurements, cloud shadowing effect measurements, and radiation time-dependent measurements are important in the infrared region." @default.
