• W2050671975 abstract "The shapes and integrated absorptions of the v(C-O) and v(N-O) stretching bands have been examined in a series of Cobalt complexes of the type Co(CO)2NOL (where L = Pφ3, Asφ3, P(OCH3)3, P(n-C4H9)3 Sbφ3 CO, P(Oφ)3; φ = C6H5) in cyctohexane solution. The half-band widths as well as the integrated intensities of these bands are markedly influenced by ligand substitution; the effect seems to parallel that of interacting solvents. On going from the parent complex Co(CO)3NO to its monosubstituted derivatives the C-O specific intensities increase, while the NO intensities decrease, σ donor and π acceptor ligand properties do not seem to be the only ones active, steric effects of the ligands being possibly of importance. From the C-O integrated intensity ratios the angles between the C-O vibrators have been estimated. The ligand substitution systematically reduces the angle between these vibrators; sterio effects, possibly overlapping the electronic ones, again are likely to play a role on this distortion. A deviation, due to such effects, from the Co-C-O co-linearity cannot be excluded." @default.
