The quantum Liouville equation for the nondegenerate electron gas is solved by the projection technique. The energy broadening associated with the short characteristic time involved in the relaxation processes is then introduced into the semiclassical Boltzmann transport equation. In contrast to previous theoretical findings, phonon-emission and -absorption peaks in energy distributions of photoexcited electrons are greatly suppressed over the entire relaxation time. Therefore, even for a moderate scattering rate (ensuremath{sim}${10}^{13}$/sec), the relaxation processes are already in the energy-broadening regime and standard approximations leading to the Fermi golden rule break down." @default.
