- W2051215943 abstract "Refined many-body calculations are presented for the fine-structure intervals (spin-orbit coupling) of the ground states in B, C, O, F, Al, Si, S and Cl, and for the first excited 2D states in N and P. Quasidegeneracy is a prominent problem for the p- and p2 ground-state configurations of B, C, Al and Si. Thus, a main objective of the present work is to investigate ways of overcoming the effects of quasidegeneracies in single-reference-state many-body expansions. It was found that the Epstein-Nesbet (shifted) partitioning of the Hamiltonian could handle the quasidegenerate ground states in B, C, Al and Si in a very favourable way. Important double excitation correlation diagrams were included to all orders through an iterative technique, and excellent agreement was obtained between computed and experimental fine-structure intervals." @default.
