The electrical nonlinearity and the single-phase moving load features of locomotives produce large amount of the harmonic current and the reactive power demand. This paper presents a shunt active power filter (SAPF) adopting hybrid multi-level inverter and a novel control algorithm based on the synchronous reference frame and the phase-shifted carrier PWM to improve the power quality in the AC electrified railway systems. The proposed SAPF and its control algorithm are investigated in the autotransformer-fed AC electrified railway application. The validity and the effectiveness of the proposed SAPF and the control algorithm are demonstrated through the case study." @default.
