- W2051471460 abstract "1. 1. Dialyzed homogenates of unembryonated Ascaris eggs were capable of oxidizing malate. 2. 2. Malate oxidation required the presence of added NAD and a hydrogen acceptor (phenazine methosulfate). 3. 3. Pyruvate and oxalacetate were the products of malate oxidation. 4. 4. Malate oxidation proceeded via the presence of malate dehydrogenase and also by a decarboxylation reaction possibly involving a malic enzyme. 5. 5. The homogenates were capable of reducing malate to succinate through fumarate reduction by NADH. 6. 6. In the absence of a Krebs cycle the results indicate a pathway in which CO 2 fixation of pyruvate produces malate which is reduced to succinate as a major product in unembryonated eggs." @default.
