- W2051967637 abstract "Fine-structure energy levels belonging to the 14 lowest configurations of Ni XVII are calculated using a large scale configuration interaction (CI) wave function in Program CIV3 of Hibbert. Absorption oscillator strengths and transition probabilities for some optically allowed and intercombination transitions among those levels and lifetimes of some (relatively) longer lived levels are also calculated and compared with other theoretical and experimental results. Our calculated energy levels show excellent agreement with the NIST recommended data and the measurement of Churilov et al (1989 Physica Scripta 40 625). While good agreements are also achieved with the measurement and other calculations on the oscillator strengths and transition probabilities for some strong transitions, our calculated lifetime for the 3s3p(3P1) overestimate the measurement by about 16%. We conclude by calling for further experimental and theoretical investigations of the fine-structure energy levels beyond level 45 where there are gaps in the existing measured data and our data and those of Froese Fischer (http://www.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~cff/mchf_collection/ ) disagree." @default.
