- W2052204574 abstract "The relative DNA-content of sperm nuclei and somatic nuclei of late blastulae of Paracentrotus lividus and Arbacia lixula was measured by Feulgen microspectrophotometry. Paracentrotus nuclei proved to have approx. 1.36 times more DNA than Arbacia nuclei. The relative DNA content per nucleus of Sphaerechinus granularis , Echinocardium cordatum and Stylocidaris affinis , was shown to be, respectively, 1.61, 1.65 and 1.71 times higher than the DNA-content per nucleus of Paracentrotus . The possible explanations for interspecific differences in DNA content are discussed. For Arbacia, Paracentrotus and Sphaerechinus a hydrolysis curve (4 N HCl at 28 °C) for increasing hydrolysis time was established. The two-peaked shape of these curves appears to be caused by two classes of DNA complexes characterized by different resistance towards acid hydrolysis. Other possible interpretations are given. Whereas in early cleavage stages a G1 period is lacking, a relatively long G1 period was found in the late blastula." @default.
