- W2052634699 abstract "Until recently it was believed that the lesions of blackleg in cattle could be caused only by B. chauvoei. But Fraenkel and Zeissler,1 Zeissler,2 Zeissler and Rassfeld,3 H. H. Heller,4 Manninger and others have shown that the lesions of blackleg hitherto regarded as pathognomonic of B. chauvoei infections, can be caused also by B. septicus or by a mixed infection of B. chauvoei and B. septicus. Very recently Karmann and Seifried 6 and Zwick7 have included B. welchii among the possible causative organisms. These new aspects of the blackleg question in general confronted the investigators with two possibilities: either the term blackleg has to be regarded as pathologic-anatomic diagnosis referring to hemorrhagic-edematous lesions of the muscles without necessarily implying B. chauvoei as causative organism; or, the term blackleg is reserved for infections with B. chauvoei alone, leaving infections with other similar organisms without a specific name." @default.
