- W2052808044 abstract "The long-term effects of early-life seizure vary as a function of age. Stress and/or glucocorticoid exposure may prime the brain, making it more susceptible to further insults. Cytokines, such as interleukin 1β (IL-1β), alter neuronal excitability and the generation of seizures and may contribute to neuronal damages. I hypothesize that amplification of brain, especially hippocampus, IL-1β and its downstream inflammatory events may cause permanent and severe brain damages in rat pups with neonatal seizure and concomitant stress. I further propose that 1L-1β blockade is a potential therapeutic agent in early-life seizures. Elucidate the underlying mechanisms of how early-life seizures cause permanent brain damages are of both experimental and clinical importance." @default.
