The groups were retained at around 11% of the carbon content of the surface as measured using electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) following challenges of water soaks and acidic and basic conditions. Angle‐dependent ESCA showed the percentage of carboxyl groups decreased with depth and supported our hypothesis that the plasma deposited acrylic acid bonds to the platinum by penetrating into the uppermost layer of the platinum.
