When fish (Carassius auratus) were kept in water containing controlled concentrations of ammonia, the cerebral concentration of glutamine increased up to ten times, that of several other amino acids increased to a lesser extent. 2. Fish brain slices incubated aerobically in a medium containing glucose or glutamate with or without NH4C1 showed an increase in the level of most amino acids.
