- W2053205091 abstract "Pulsating (pulsatile) electromagnetically induced currents (PEMIC, PEMF, PMF), simple alternating currents (ac) and even direct currents (dc) were applied to cells, tissues and organisms in order to stimulate membrane permeabilization and some pathways of the metabolism for the first time about 15 years ago [l]. In principle, there may be some similar processes, e.g. polarization, ion displacement, dipole induction, leading to conformational changes of pore proteins, enzymes and phase transitions of membranes; however, explanations by models are in the very beginning [2-41. Concerning the general conception of an “electrochemical information transfer on cell membranes”, the membrane proteins are an important kind of target. Following PEMIC results of inducing active transport of K+, Rb+, Ca2’ ions by ATPases and ATP synthesis by ATP synthetases, a model for transduction of field energy to conformational states of different electric moment was presented [S]. Similar activations are assumed for these enzymes. In contrast, the microelectrophoretic model [2] postulates variations in the period spent by an ion or an effector near membrane receptors, protein channels or binding sites of ionophores, and also membrane binding. In the frame of this model, the enhancement of permeabilization is described from the viewpoint of substance movement. It seems likely that both groups of models have to be combined in order to understand the phenomena better." @default.
