If the disease is limited to the breast tissue (true stage i), the simple procedures with postoperative radiation should suffice; there should be no need for further extension of the surgical field. The simpler procedure can be applied to a larger number of patients with comparative satisfactory if not better end results. 4.4. As a consequence of the variability of the disease and in the recording of the diagnosis and its accuracy, considerable difficulty is encountered in assessing the result of a particular form of therapy on the basis of a statistical analysis of such records.
