- W2053648654 abstract "Summary. Four cases of marrow aplasia are described in which sideroblastic anaemia eventually developed. In two cases, the diagnosis of sideroblastic anaemia was established during a phase of partial recovery from the original aplastic episode. In the other two, periods of respectively 6 and 20 yr separated the two diagnoses though, in the latter, persistent thrombocytopenia had suggested that marrow recovery was incomplete. It is suggested that an abnormal erythroid clone, characterized by the presence of ring sideroblasts, may arise during recovery from an aplastic episode, a situation somewhat analogous to the development of PNH in a patient with aplastic anaemia. Apparent clinical remission might mask this underlying haematological abnormality, in some cases, for years." @default.
