- W2053822433 abstract "Abortion is a frustating event especially today with most pregnancies wanted and planned. The physician regards a casual abortion not as a serious physical disorder but rather as a failure of nature. The feelings of grief and regret of the parents to be after this pregnancy loss are soothed in most cases when the subsequent pregnancy appears to be viable. There remains, however, a small group of women who abort habitually and, besides feelings of grief and regret, doubt is added after each pregnancy loss. Meanwhile, feelings of doubt on further reproduction are not only for the patient but for the attending physician as well. Since expectations on todays medical possibilities run high, questions arise on the underlying cause, reproductive possibilities in the future, and last but not least therapeutical intervention. A mutual connection between the subsequent abortions is likely, leading to more extensive diagnostic procedures. Habitual abortion is obviously a medical topic; publications appear almost yearly about new insights both in etiology and as a consequence in therapy. The fact that investigators from different countries in the world demonstrate various etiologies and that the benefit of different therapeutic possibilities arouses the suspicion that there is no general agreement on handling a patient with habitual abortion. The present review is an attempt to obtain order in these aspects of habitual abortion." @default.
