A field survey involving CEOs and Human Resource Executives of 286 firms covered under the Legislated Employment Equity Program (LEEP), Federal Contractors Program (FCP), and Financial Post 500 (FP 500) companies was conducted. Results indicate that CEOs of LEEP firms reported a greater commitment to managing diversity. LEEP firms, and to some extent FCP firms, also had adopted more practices (e.g., policies, recruiting, training, and accountability) supportive of employment equity than FP 500 firms. Cet article examine l'impact de la législation sur l'équité en matière d'emploi, les règlements de conformité et l'absence des règlements sur les pratiques de diversité au sein des entreprises canadiennes. Il s'appuie sur une enquête de terrain menée auprès des PDG et des cadres des ressources humaines de 286 entreprises du Programme légiféré d'équité en matière d'emploi (LEEP), des Programmes des contrats fédéraux (FCP) et du Financial Post 500 firms (FP 500). Les résultats indiquent que les PDG d'entreprises de LEEP se disent plus engagés à gérer la diversité. Les entreprises de LEEP, et dans une moindre mesure celles du FCP, ont aussi adopté plus de pratiques (par exemple, les politiques, le recrutement, la formation et la responsabilité) favorables à l'équité en matière d'emploi que les entreprises du FP 500. Il appert que l'équité en matière d'emploi reste l'outil le plus efficace pour promouvoir l'équité et la diversité dans les organisations canadiennes. Copyright © 2010 ASAC.
