- W2054147908 abstract "Sir--The article by Dr Wynn and Dr Doar (Oct 1 p. 715) contains the statement: Abnormalities of intravenous glucose tolerance have not so far been reported in women taking oral I should like to point out that three reports have been published in the past year on intravenous glucose-tolerance tests in subjects receiving oral contraceptives. Raised blood-glucose and plasma-insulin levels have already been demonstrated in subjects receiving oral contraceptives. This letter has been shown to Dr. Wynn and Dr. Doar who write as follows: The paper by Spellacy and Carlson is a preliminary report which appeared after the preparation of our manuscript. Short notes about the same data have appeared twice before. Spellacy and Carlson have demonstrated small changes in the disappearance-rate of intravenously administered glucos in 25 healthy female subjects on the 19th day of the first cycle of Enovid administration. They have not however demonstrated abnormal intravenous glucose-tolerance tests. We await the more definitive evaluation of their findings with interest. (Full text)" @default.
