- W2055292802 abstract "This article reviews the current status of several projects that aim at the development of data processing systems in hospitals. The experience gathered thus far points out that in addition to their use in accounting procedures, computers are becoming important tools in each of the following areas of hospital operations: (a) hospital statistics, (b) hospital medical records, (c) physiological monitoring, (d) medical management, (e) laboratory and functional testing, (f) hospital communications, and (g) distribution of services and facilities. It is not possible to suggest adaptation for general hospital use of any system mentioned in this paper. In the majority of cases, the systems have been designed according to the individual needs of the institution and items of relevance to one may be superfluous to others. At this point in time, it is necessary to establish requirements for a good hospital information system as well as adequate criteria to measure its effectiveness. Initial steps toward this goal have been undertaken but further effort is required [29]." @default.
