- W2055344575 abstract "ISEE-236 Abstract: As the evidence about human-induced global warming continues to grow, increasing attention has been focussing on its possible public health consequences. The scientific community has generally agreed on the health effects of climate extremes (eg, heatwaves, droughts, floods, storms and bushfires), but has been debating on many other important issues such as climate change and infectious diseases and interactive health impact of weather and air pollution. Many knowledge gaps remain in the assessment of the potential impact of climate change on population health. Scientists and policy-makers face the following five major tasks: 1) establishing baseline relationships between climate and health; 2) seeking evidence of early effects of climate change; 3) developing scenario-based predictive models; 4) evaluating adaptation options; and 5) assessing benefits and costs of mitigation and adaptation. All these tasks require i) a well coordinated multi-disciplinary approach; ii) high quality data on climate, health outcomes and confounding factors; iii) appropriate research methodology for undertaking each of these tasks; and iv) sufficient research funding. These issues will be illustrated with examples from our previous work." @default.
