• W2055348515 abstract "In the cytoplasm of rat liver which had been exposed to radioactive precursor of RNA, the 40-S ribonucleoprotein particles with a specific radioactivity higher than that of polyribosomes were found for several hours after the injection of RNA precursor. Characterization of these particles was performed with the aid of CsCl density-gradient centrifugation, RNA base-ratio analysis, selective inhibition of rRNA synthesis with an intermediate dose of actinomycin D and sucrose gradient centrifugation of the RNA moiety. 1. The bulk of cytoplasmic 40-S ribonucleoprotein particles consisted of the matured 40-S ribosomal subunits. The CsCl profiles of these subunits revealed the presence of two forms with buoyant densities of 1.53 and 1.46 g/cm3, respectively. 2. The newly synthesized 40-S ribosomal subunits appeared as the radioactive material in the 1.47–1.52 g/cm3 region which corresponded to the major part of the rapidly labeled cytoplasmic 40-S ribonucleoprotein particle fraction, the appearance of which was inhibited with an intermediate dose of actinomycin D. As labeling progressed, the radioactivity at a density of 1.49 g/cm3 shifted to 1.53 g/cm3 ribosomal subunits via 1.51 g/cm3 radioactive material. 3. The minor part of radioactivity found in the 1.39–1.44 g/cm3 region in the buoyant density profiles of rapidly labeled cytoplasmic 40-S ribonucleoprotein particles, which was not inhibited with an intermediate dose of actinomycin D and represented the RNA base ratio approaching that of D-RNA, was considered to be due to the unique particles carrying messenger-type RNA." @default.
