- W2055403048 abstract "Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) are frequently isolated from milk samples, mostly from subclinical mastitis cases. This group, which includes several staphylococcal species, generally leads to moderate cell count increases at quarter and cow levels, with intramammary infections persisting often for several months. Intramammary infections caused by CNS occur frequently around parturition and have been observed to be more frequent in primiparous than in multiparous animals. The infections are often self-limiting and several isolates have been identified as multiresistant. Antimicrobial treatment for subclinical mastitis during lactation should therefore be avoided as it is uneconomical, and may contribute to the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. The diversity of strains found for some of the most frequently isolated species from mastitis cases appear to point to differences in the epidemiology of infection for individual species." @default.
