- W2055899572 abstract "The fresh weight, dry weight, protein and carbohydrate changes occurring during normal and abnormal differentiation of Coprinus congregatus fruit-bodies are described. Light initiated primordia needed a dark period for normal development at the — 36 h stage (or dark sensitive primordia). This dark period allowed for protein and carbohydrate accumulations in the stipe. In continuous light neither this accumulation nor meiosis occurred. If the dark period was too long, there was a point of no return at which the primordia aborted with elongated stipes and caps showing weak sporogenesis. The promoting effect of light following the inductive dark period could be concerned with the translocation of carbohydrates and proteins from the stipe to the cap. The changes in different carbohydrate fractions indicated that alcohol-soluble carbohydrates accumulated in the stipe and were probably used during cap maturation." @default.
