- W2055937843 abstract "Performance assessment is an increasingly relevant concept in present-day irrigation systems. To this end some indicators have been proposed for comparing actual performance with established design criteria. Concerning sprinkler irrigation, evaluation of the jet losses due to environmental conditions can be considered an important indicator of system performance. The issue requires a full analytical description of spray flow and waste and entails both experimental and theoretical studies. In the former, it appears to be difficult to identify, and so to measure, the contribution of each parameter to the final result; in the latter, the non-linear relationships among the variables make it difficult to obtain an exhaustive analytical picture of the process. Numerous experimental and theoretical studies have been conducted recently in an attempt to gain a deeper insight into the phenomenon but much work still remains to be done. A mathematical model for irrigation sprinkler droplet ballistics, based on a simplified dynamic approach to the phenomenon, has been presented. The results compare very favourably with the kinematic results obtained by other authors using more complicated procedures. Moreover, field trials showed the model to reliably estimate spray evaporation losses caused by environmental conditions. Further analytic and experimental work is needed to gain a better understanding of the problem. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. L'évaluation de la performance devient un facteur de plus en plus important pour les systèmes d'irrigation actuels. Dans ce but, on a proposé des indicateurs pour pouvoir comparer la performance actuelle avec les critères établis de projet. Pour ce qui concerne l'irrigation par aspersion, l'évaluation des pertes d'eau des jets dues aux conditions environnementales représente un important indicateur de la performance du système. Ce problème exige une description complète analytique de l'écoulement de l'eau aspergée et des fuites et entraîne des études expérimentales et théoriques. En ce qui concerne des études expérimentales, il se révèle difficile à identifier, et à mesurer ainsi, la contribution de chaque paramètre au résultat final; d'autre part les relations non linéaires entre les variables font difficile de réaliser un examen analytique exhaustif du processus. Récemment, des recherches expérimentales et théoriques ont été réalisées dans ce champ dans un effort d'obtenir une vision plus profonde sur ce phénomène, mais beaucoup de travail reste à faire. Un modèle mathématique a été présenté pour la balistique des gouttelettes, basé sur une approche simplifiée au phénomène. Les résultats se comparent très favorablement avec ceux d'autres chercheurs qui ont utilisé des procédures plus compliquées. En outre, les expérimentations au champ ont montré la solidité du modèle pour l'évaluation des pertes d'eau aspergée par évaporation à cause des conditions environnementales.
