- W2055963295 abstract "In a short survey it is pointed out that mucopolysaccharides are encountering increasing interest in view of their great physiological and therapeutic importance. Heparin seems to have in addition to its well-known direct anticoagulant effects some further pharmacodynamic properties which have up to now not been sufficiently elucidated. The so-called ground substances-chondroitin sulfuric acids and hyaluronic acids—may play an important part in the exchange of metabolic products as well as in the transportation of nutritive and active compounds in the tissues and organs without vascularisation. The class of the mucopolysaccharides is considerably larger than was assumed a few years ago. In confirmation and extension of former findings we were able to show that in the different animal species several heparins are encountered and that in addition there are found anticoagulant factors—designated by us asβ-heparins—which are built up by the same components as chondroitin sulfuric acid but differ from the heparins already known by their amino sugar." @default.
