- W2056511974 abstract "Seismoelectric methods based upon the electrokinetic conversion method have begun to be tested in various groundwater problem situations where conventional methods are not effective. This method has great potential, in theory, to directly measure hydraulic permeability contrasts and changes in pore surface chemistry. However, there is a distinct lack of successful case histories to support the theory. This is not surprising as the electrical signals produced from the seismic wave are millivolts to submicrovolt in magnitude, and the measurement of such signals in the presence of cultural interference that is usually greater in magnitude is difficult. We provide data from two test areas in Western Australia that demonstrate the utility of the method. Significant hydrogeological boundaries were detected up to 50 m deep in saline groundwater conditions, and at least 80 m deep in freshwater aquifers using a hammer source and a seismic acquisition system." @default.
