- W2056535354 abstract "Objectives were to quantify functional status (FS) of community-dwelling adults (CDA) with pain-related impairment (PRI) due to poly-trauma (PTM) using the Pain Disability Questionnaire(PDQ), obtained from the AMA Guides Sixth Edition, and to relate FS,PRI,& physical performance status (PPS). A retrospective cross-sectional study was undertaken in an outpatient rehabilitation clinic. Thirty-nine CDA (16 mild/moderate [m/m] and 23 severe/extreme [s/e] PRI) with PTM >2 years were identified with PRI a significant problem. The PDQ measured total PRI and has two sub-factors: Functional Status (FS) and Psychosocial Status (PS). The 6-Minute-Walk-Test (6MWT), Dynamic-Gait-Index (DGI), Berg-Balance-Scale (BBS), Sit-To-Stand (STS), Loaded-Reach (LR), Lumbar-Flexion-Motion (LFM), Repeated-Trunk-Flexion (RTF), and 50-Feet-Walk-Fastest (FWF) measured PPS. Owing to data non-normality, the Mann-Whitney U Test was used to test for differences between pain categories and Spearman's Rank coefficient for examining correlations. No statistical differences were found when testing for gender effect (p>.05). Statistical differences were found when patients were categorized by pain severity using the PDQ: PDQ-FS, PDQ-PS, STS and DGI, with s/e patients exhibiting significantly higher scores on PDQ measures and significantly lower scores on DGI (p<. 05). There was a correlation of PDQ and: RTF (r = 0.585, p=0.17) for m/m; and, STS (r = .512, p=.012), FWF (r = .486, p=.019), 6MWT-distance (r = -.553, p=.006), 6MWT-metabolic equivalents (r = -.571, p=.004), and 6MWT-speed (r = -.518, p=.011) for s/e. CDA with PTM & mild/moderate PRI had low functional performance of activities requiring repeated trunk flexion, while those at severe/extreme PRI had poor performance requiring changing sit/stand positions, walked shorter distance at slower speed, and had decreased energy expenditure capacity. Findings may possibly describe pain characteristics as long-term trauma effects progress. The PDQ may be valuable clinically in assessing FS & PPS of CDA with PTM and PRI. Further research on the PDQ & PPS, like PRI in Nervous System Disorders, would be beneficial." @default.
