- W2056539614 abstract "Abstract The beagle pancreas shows no significant or consistent age changes at the histological level. A relatively small number of intrapancreatic vascular lesions occur. These are fibrotic and are of minor severity. The pattern and amount of collagenous and reticular tissue in the beagle pancreas do not change significantly with age. Occasionally, fatty degeneration with connective tissue replacement is observed in small areas of the parenchyma in the older dogs. Only rarely is fibrosis, hyalinization, cell degeneration, or islet atrophy observed. The deposition of amyloid generally does not occur in the beagle pancreas with age, while the intra- and interlobular ducts show no age-related alterations. At the ultrastructural level, a marked increase in the occurrence of lysosomes is observed in the acinar cells of the older beagles. A number of the beta cells in the older beagles contain lipofuscin-like material, while the remainder of the beta cell ultrastructure appears normal." @default.
