- W2056553445 abstract "Abstract The temporal evolution of river-flow dynamics is investigated using methods from nonlinear time series analysis. After a discussion on the possible sources of nonlinear deterministic components, different methods for the detection of nonlinear and deterministic components in river flow time series are illustrated and the application to three river-flow time series from basins of different dimensions and characteristics is presented. All the results of different nonlinear techniques show noticeable evidence of determinism and nonlinearity at high discharge values, while at low discharge values, and especially during recessions, the series seem to be the result of a mostly linear dynamics. The complexity of the dynamics and the degree of nonlinearity are also discussed in relation to the basin dimensions and the kind of hydroclimatic regime. Résumé L'évolution temporelle de la dynamique du débit fluvial est étudiée avec des méthodes tirées de l'analyse de séries temporelles non-linéaires. Après une discussion des causes potentielles des composantes déterministes non-linéaires, différentes méthodes de détection des composantes non-linéaires et déterministes de séries temporelles de débit fluvial sont présentées, puis appliquées aux séries de trois bassins de dimensions et de caractéristiques différentes. Tous les résultats des différentes techniques non-linéaires mettent nettement en évidence le déterminisme et la non-linéarité pour les grandes valeurs de débit, tandis que pour les faibles débits, en particulier en période de décrue, les séries semblent essentiellement résulter de dynamiques linéaires. Nous discutons la complexité des dynamiques et le degré de non-linéarité en relation avec les dimensions du bassin et avec le type de régime hydro-climatique.
