Pulmonary involvement has rarely been observed in herpes zoster; the case we present is such an example. The recently recognized similarity between the two diseases requires revision of some concepts pertaining to them; review of the literature relative to pathogenesis, propagation of the causative agent, and factors leading to variations in the manifestations of herpes zoster and varicella serves this purpose.CASE REPORTA 28-year-old man entered the Ann Arbor Veterans Administration Hospital on December 19, 1961, for the tenth time within a period of 5 years.
