- W2057019268 abstract "Cinemicrographic studies of the in vitro cultured larval ovaries of the paedogenetic gall midge, Heteropeza pygmaea reveal continuous, pulsating movements of all oocyte nuclei. These movements last for 1–2 days until follicles are formed. The pulsating movements occur concomitantly with the constrictions of the oocyte nuclei. Examination of the behaviour of “naked” oocyte-nurse chamber complexes outside of the ovaries shows evidence for autonomous nuclear movements. Ultrastructural investigation of the ovaries demonstrates that the shape of the plasmalemma of the oocyte does not conform to the contour of the constricted nuclear envelope. A juxtanuclear sheath of filamentous material associated with microtubules covers large areas of the nuclear envelope. A comparison with microfilament bundles found in other parts of the ovary indicates that the juxtanuclear sheath consists of a meshwork of non-parallel microfilaments. It is suggested that this layer of microfilaments is responsible for producing the force for nuclear pulsation." @default.
