- W2057367002 abstract "Abstract Short-term effects of unilateral ovariectomy on ovulation rate were studied in the Booroola Merino and other Merino genotypes selected for ovulation rate. After the removal of one ovary at either the early luteal phase of the oestrous cycle or at luteolysis, both Booroola F+ and ++ ewes showed compensation in ovulation rate in the cycle immediately following unilateral ovariectomy. Removal of the ovary possessing the functional corpus luteum or the less active ovary did not influence the degree of ovarian compensation, whether compared to their previous cycle or to sham-operated ewes. These results indicate that the mechanism mediating compensation of ovulation rate following the removal of one ovary is present in the fecund Booroola F+ ewe, as well as in the three other Merino genotypes examined." @default.
