- W2057773180 abstract "Abstract The build up of population of the soft scale Lecanium acuminatum on trees of Mangifera indica on different heights and directions has been investigated in different seasons. In August, the highest insect population tended always to occur at the middle and upper zones of the trees. Directions are effective as well on the insect distribution, where the lowest population was accumulated in the central zones of the tree. This distribution was correlated to the photopositive reaction of the insect. In October and November the insect distribution followed nearly the same trend and this was correlated to the favourable microclimatic conditions attained on the upper zones as well as their exposure to light. In April and May, the insect prefered the middle heights of the trees as a means of protection from the uppermost zones which are exposed to Khamasin winds. Studies on the individual effects of heights, directions and seasons revealed their high significant effect on the insect distribution. The interaction of these factors proved to be highly effective as well on the insect distribution with the exception of height‐direction interaction. @default.
