This work describes fluorination of sintered pellets of Ba2RCu3O7−δ (R=Y, Eu; (0⩽δ⩽1). Fluorination of Ba2YCu3O6.92 affords a nominal composition of Ba 2YCu3O6.4F1.3 and Tc(onset)=92 K. Fluorination of Ba2YCu3O6.15 gives a nominal composition of Ba2YCu3O4.7F3.0, which is not supercon ducting to 4.2 K. Fluorinated pellets appear to be single-phase as determined by X-ray powder diffraction. However, Raman, NQR, ESR, X-ray diffraction, and TEM data suggest that fluorine is not incorporated into the superconducting phase, but rather is incorporated into a secondary amorphous phase." @default.
