- W2059262309 abstract "<h2>Abstract</h2> Pressure-flow relationships and apparent viscosity of blood <i>in vivo</i> were determined in the vasodilated skeletal muscle of the dog in an experimental intestinal shock induced by splanchnic venous stasis and after subsequent hemodilution with low-molecular-weight dextran. An isolated calf muscle preparation of one hind limb was used as an <i>in vivo</i> viscometer. Blood flow was measured electro magnetically at different perfusion pressures. The muscle was intermittently perfused with a cell-free reference solution for determination of apparent viscosity <i>in vivo</i>. Apparent viscosity <i>in vitro</i> was determined in a Wells-Brookfield viscometer. Splanchnic venous stasis resulted in hemoconcentration and hypotension. Apparent viscosity <i>in vivo</i> in the skeletal muscle increased out of proportion to the increase in hematocrit and <i>in vitro</i> viscosity. The flow stagnation in the skeletal muscle could be prevented by perfusion of the muscle with the reference solution after the stasis period which suggests a washout effect by the reference solution." @default.
