In this paper we will argue that multiple reflections contain a wealth of information that should be used in seismic processing to improve the resolution of reservoir images beyond current capability. The proposed method, multi‐channel weighted cross‐correlation (MWCC), in combination with surface‐related multiple elimination (SRME) allows the transformation of multiples into primaries. The latter means that nonlinear seismic imaging can be implemented by a number of linear steps.Permalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/1.2148127FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByCalculating multiple scattering from a time-varying undulating sea surface using a full-wavefield multistage algorithmXiangyu Meng, Fuxing Han, Jianguo Sun, Mingchen Liu, Zeshuang Xu, and Mingyang Lv27 January 2022 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 87, No. 2Research progress on seismic imaging technologyPetroleum Science, Vol. 63Full-Path Compensated Least-Squares Reverse Time Migration of Joint Primaries and Different-Order Multiples for Deep-Marine EnvironmentIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Vol. 59, No. 8Data- and model-domain up/down wave separation for reverse-time migration with free-surface multiples18 June 2020 | Geophysical Journal International, Vol. 223, No. 1Viscoacoustic reverse time migration of joint primaries and different-order multiplesYingming Qu, Jinli Li, Zhe Guan, and Zhenchun Li9 January 2020 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 85, No. 2Reverse time migration of multiples: Reducing migration artifacts using the wavefield decomposition imaging conditionYibo Wang, Yikang Zheng, Qingfeng Xue, Xu Chang, Tong W.
