Hemorrhage and loss of reflexogenic erections have been notably absent in 31 patients who underwent anteromedian sphincterotomy. The rationale is discussed for the preference of anteromedian over bilateral sphincterotomy based on postoperative complications. The postoperative, radiologically aided cystosphincterometric and electromyographic studies during micturition indicated the adequacy of the surgical procedures, satisfying the urodynamic criteria, although dyssynergic myoelectric activity of the periurethral striated muscle continued to exist. © 1977 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByFontaine E, Hajri M, Rhein F, Fakacs C, Le Mouel M and Beurton D (2018) Reappraisal of Endoscopic Sphincterotomy for Post-Traumatic Neurogenic Bladder: A Prospective StudyJournal of Urology, VOL. 155, NO. 1, (277-280), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1996.Vapnek J, Couillard D and Stone A (2018) Is Sphincterotomy the Best Management of the Spinal Cord Injured Bladder?Journal of Urology, VOL. 151, NO. 4, (961-964), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1994.Ami Sidi A, Becher E, Reddy P and Dykstra D (2018) Augmentation Enterocystoplasty for the Management of Voiding Dysfunction in Spinal Cord Injury PatientsJournal of Urology, VOL. 143, NO. 1, (83-85), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1990.Lockhart J, Vorstman B, Weinstein D and Politano V (2018) Sphincterotomy Failure in Neurogenic Bladder DiseaseJournal of Urology, VOL. 135, NO. 1, (86-89), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1986.Yalla S (2018) Editorial CommentJournal of Urology, VOL. 135, NO. 1, (89-89), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1986.Graham S (2018) Present Urological Treatment of Spinal Cord Injury PatientsJournal of Urology, VOL. 126, NO. 1, (1-4), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1981.Constantinople N, Waters W and Yalla S (2018) Operative Versus Non-Operative Management of Patients with Staghorn Calculi and Neurogenic BladderJournal of Urology, VOL. 121, NO. 6, (716-718), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1979.Resnick M (2018) Editorial CommentJournal of Urology, VOL. 121, NO. 6, (718-718), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1979.Fam B, Rossier A, Blunt K, Gabilondo F, Sarkarati M, Sethi J and Yalla S (2018) Experience in the Urologic Management of 120 Early Spinal Cord Injury PatientsJournal of Urology, VOL. 119, NO. 4, (485-487), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1978.Jacobs S and Kaufman J (2018) Complications of Permanent Bladder Catheter Drainage in Spinal Cord Injury PatientsJournal of Urology, VOL. 119, NO. 6, (740-741), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1978.Yalla S, Gabilondo F, Blunt K, Fam B, Castello A and Kaufman J (2018) Functional Striated Sphincter Component at the Bladder Neck: Clinical ImplicationsJournal of Urology, VOL. 118, NO. 3, (408-411), Online publication date: 1-Sep-1977.Kaufman J, Fam B, Jacobs S, Gabilondo F, Yalla S, Kane J and Rossier A (2018) Bladder Cancer and Squamous Metaplasia in Spinal Cord Injury PatientsJournal of Urology, VOL. 118, NO. 6, (967-971), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1977.Yalla S, Blunt K, Fam B, Constantinople N and Gutes R (2018) Detrusor-Urethral Sphincter DyssynergiaJournal of Urology, VOL. 118, NO. 6, (1026-1029), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1977.
