- W2061563885 abstract "Plasma free fatty acid levels were considerably and significantly higher in 40 fasting, rested male outpatients with a history of myocardial infarction than in 40 age-matched controls. In a smaller series studied under more rigorously controlled conditions, similar findings were obtained for subjects with a distant infarction, but not for those within 3 weeks of myocardial infarction. Intravenous glucose tolerance was studied in male subjects under the age of 50 years, with a recent or distant myocardial infarction, and in controls. A tendency to decreased tolerance was found in the subjects with a recent infarction, but this was not present in those with a distant infarction. It is concluded that the impairment of intravenous glucose tolerance that may be found after myocardial infarction is temporary. In view of several reports of abnormal oral glucose tolerance in patients with ischaemic heart disease, it is possible that oral and intravenous glucose tolerance differ in such patients." @default.
