L’âge dentaire est estimé par la détermination des stades de minéralisation radiculaire et coronaire de sept dents mandibulaires gauches à partir d’orthopantomogrammes. Cette étude est transversale et rétrospective. L’âge dentaire est comparé à l’âge chronologique à l’aide d’outils statistiques. À partir de 16 ans, l’utilisation des standards de Demirjian et Goldstein (1976) et de Chaillet et Demirjian (2004) conduit à une estimation erronée de l’âge. Nous avons donc essentiellement étudié le groupe d’enfants de cinq à 15 ans. Les enfants français de 5 à 15 ans présentent une avance de maturation dentaire lorsque les standards de Demirjian et Goldstein (1976) sont employés. La surestimation moyenne est de 0,51 ± 0,3 ans dans cette classe d’âge. L’utilisation des standards de Chaillet et Demirjian (2004) dans cette même classe d’âge donne une estimation de l’âge plus précise. La différence moyenne est de –0,07 ± 0,33 ans. Les standards de maturation dentaire fournis par Demirjian et Goldstein (1976) ne sont pas appropriés aux enfants du Sud-Ouest de la France. En revanche, les standards de Chaillet et Demirjian (2004) sont recommandés pour les enfants actuels. The aim of this study was to test the validity of the standards of dental maturation of Demirjian and Goldstein (1976), and the standards of Chaillet and Demirjian (2004) for the contemporary population of South West of France. The sample comprised 911 children aged between 5 and 18 years, and examined between 2004 and 2010. Dental age was assessed by crown and root mineralization stages of seven left mandibular teeth from orthopantomographs. The study was cross-sectional and retrospective. Dental age was statistically compared to chronological age. After the threshold of 16 years old, the standards of Demirjian and Goldstein (1976) and the standards of Chaillet and Demirjian (2004) give a false age estimation. So we studied the 5 to 15 years group particularly. Dental age of French children of the sample is dentally advanced compared to the standards of Demirjian and Goldstein (1976) in the 5 to 15 years group. The mean overestimation was 0.51 ± 0.3 years in this group. The utilisation of the Chaillet and Demirjian standards in the 5 to 15 group give a higher accuracy of age prediction. The mean difference was –0.07 ± 0.33 years. The standards of dental maturation described by Demirjian and Goldstein (1976) may not be suitable for children of South West France. Those of Chaillet and Demirjian (2004) are appropriate for current children." @default.
