- W2061646100 abstract "A significant proportion of the adult population in the UK is prescribed oral glucocorticoids (glucocorticosteroids), most commonly for respiratory, musculoskeletal and skin conditions. These drugs are associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis and patients who are taking them need careful management to reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis. The advent of nurse prescribing provides nurses with the opportunity to take greater responsibility for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in such patients. An understanding of the 2002 guidelines for the prevention and treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis is therefore important for nurse prescribers who wish to develop their competency in this area of care." @default.
